The other sisters Chiara, Bethany and Rhianna are initially sceptical but soon get caught up in the excitement. "A road trip? You mean we'd be in a car for hours?" Bethany asked, raising an eyebrow. "Come on, Bethany! It's about the journey. Not just the destination!" Rhianna exclaimed. Chiara chimed in, "And think of the memories we'll make! Remember that time we got lost in the woods and Bett mistook a squirrel for a rare bird?" The sisters all chuckled together.

6: Autobiography - The Paul Duddell Story "THE ART OF LIVING"
A True Story of Passion, Perseverance and Art, Told from the Heart.
Every life begins as a blank canvas.
Some are painted in steady strokes — calm seas, simple skies, familiar faces.
Others, like mine, are born in the wild colours of change — Africa’s red earth, the blinding white of Mediterranean light, and the greys and colds of Norfolk rain.
My name is Paul “AWESOME” Duddell, and this is the story of a life lived in motion — a story not just of where I’ve been, but of what I’ve learned along the way.
From a boy with golden hair standing in a metal cot in Nairobi, to a man searching for meaning across continents — through laughter, loss, and rediscovery — this is a journey of becoming.
It’s about art and heart, about falling and rising, about never giving up even when the light seems far away.
It’s a reminder that sometimes we travel the longest roads only to return to ourselves.
For nearly three decades, I wandered through life’s storms, searching for something I couldn’t name. And then, in 2004, I found it — when I held my daughter Rhianna in my arms for the first time. In that moment, I realised I hadn’t just become a father.
I’d been reborn.
This book is not a list of events. It’s a celebration of the human spirit — of memory, resilience, and love.
It’s about “The Art of Living” — and how even the darkest canvas can be transformed by a single stroke of light.
7: Sublime Health
If there’s one thing in this book that changed everything for me, it was MINDFULNESS.
On the 7th of January 2026, I made an appointment to see my doctor for a routine check-up. I had some blood tests done, followed by more on the 9th and again on the 12th. A consultation was booked for the 14th.
What came next was something I wasn’t prepared for.
I was given a list of health concerns that stopped me in my tracks.
1. High BPH levels (Benign Prostate Hyperplasia)
2. High PSA levels (Prostate Specific Antigen)
3. Enlarged Prostate
4. High potassium levels in the blood. (Hyperkalaemia)
5. High BSA levels - High levels of Serum Albumin (Hyperalbumenia)
6. Concerns around my liver and kidneys
7. Problems with my blood results
8. Possible Prostate Cancer
And the possibility of needing emergency treatment
Just days later, on the 19th of January, I had an MRI scan which showed dark spots on my prostate. The oncologist recommended an immediate biopsy.
But something didn’t feel right.
I can’t fully explain it, but there was a voice inside me that kept saying no.
Despite pressure from doctors and consultants, I refused the biopsy. The conversations became difficult, even argumentative at times, until eventually I was told that if I chose not to proceed, I would be removed from their list.
And that was it.
1. No follow-up
2. No further contact
I was left to figure things out on my own.
The day I first received the news, I went home and completely broke down.
I cried uncontrollably.
I kept asking the same question
Why me?
Telling family and friends made it all feel even more real.
At 61 years old, it was one of the first times in my life that I felt truly frightened.
Up until that point, I had never been on any medication. I had always believed that the body, when supported properly, has the ability to heal.
But the truth was the year leading up to this had been one of the hardest of my life.
In 2025, I lost everything.
1. My home
2. My stability
I ended up living in a caravan for a year.
During that time, my lifestyle changed.
1. My fitness dropped
2. My nutrition slipped
It wasn’t just one thing that affected my health—
It was everything.
On the 14th of February, I weighed just eight stone.
But the day after my breakdown, something shifted.
I woke up with a different mind-set.
1. Not fixed
2. Not certain
3. But positive
Positive that I was going to do something about it:
So I started learning.
Researching
Trying to understand my body and what it needed.
I changed my nutrition.
I introduced supplements.
I began focusing on my health in a way I never had before.
And slowly, things began to change.
By the 18th of March, just over a month later, my weight had increased to nine stone.
Around the same time, two friends sent me simple messages:
“Be positive—you’ve got this.”
They even used a nickname I’ve had since the early 1990s—
“Awesome.”
That stuck with me.
That moment—combined with everything I was going through—
Set me on a new path.
1. A path into mindfulness
2. A path into understanding the body
3. A path into taking responsibility for my own health
And that was the beginning of everything that followed.
Because sometimes, it takes a moment like that...
To finally start listening to your body.
“My body maybe sick-but it’s not broken”
